Description

The fifth-generation 4Runner is among my very favorite versions of this popular SUV, as it offers more modern amenities than its predecessors – but it still touts the same excellent off-road capabilities as previous 4Runner models, along with exceptional durability and reliability. This particular example boasts 4-wheel drive and a really cool “Party Mode” liftgate that allows the speakers to play with the liftgate up – and it’s mostly unmodified, with painted factory wheels being the only change from stock.

  • Factory equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, running boards, skid plates for engine and fuel tank, a trailer hitch receiver, power-adjustable front seats, auxiliary input, AM/FM/Cd player, Bluetooth connectivity, A-TRAC, Downhill Assist Control, “Party Mode” liftgate, a 12V outlet in rear cargo area, and a roll-down rear window.
  • Modifications are limited to the factory wheels being painted black.
  • Introduced for the 2010 model year, the fifth-generation 4Runner features an updated V6 engine with improved horsepower, torque, and fuel economy thanks to a new Dual VVT-i variable valve timing system. While many of its rivals moved to a unibody architecture, the 4Runner kept its body-on-frame layout and continued to offer exceptional off-road capacity.
  • Power comes from a 4.0-liter “1GR-FE” V6, which produces 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. The engine spins the rear or all four wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case.
